The Friends of the Peterborough Public Library were recently recognized for their many years of service to the library with the dedication of the library's auditorium. The Friends of the Library Auditorium is a public space used for many events supported by the library, as well as by community groups who frequent this space. A new plaque outlining the Friends' contribution to the library can now be found on the back wall of the auditorium. It includes the Friends' new logo, and signifies the heartfelt thanks of the Library Board and staff.
A small group of dedicated library supporters started The Friends of the Peterborough Public Library (FOL) in 1986. Its aims, as set out in its Constitution, are to:
The group meets every second month for a noon hour business meeting and "brown-bag" lunch. The major fund-raising activity of the group is two book sales, one in April and one in October. Members meet every Tuesday morning to sort donations for the sale. Every year, on average, the FOL donate close to $40,000 to the library for the purchase of a wide range of materials, including large print books, audio books and bestsellers.
If you are a library user or supporter please consider becoming a member of FOL - we would welcome your interest. Membership in the FOL has a $10.00 annual membership fee. Please call 705-745-5382 ext. 2339 if you are interested in joining or fill out our application and send it in.
The FOL also welcomes monetary donations from Library supporters who are unable to participate in membership in the organization. Donations can be left at the Peterborough Public Library and a receipt will be issued for donations over $10.00.
