This section will grow as we collect more and more helpful tips for using different tools in the library and from home. For now, here are some special "How to ..." tips for using our Traditional Search in the catalogue, including how to ...
... search for specific authors and titles, CDs, DVDs, music scores ...
... place a hold through the catalogue ...
... renew your library materials ...
... find out what is new in the library collection
You can combine search fields such as titles, authors and subjects by typing in the search terms in the search box and selecting words and phrases from the drop-down menu.
Type the CD title or artist followed by "and cd" in the search box, and select words or phrases from the drop-down menu. Make sure you include "and" between the two - for example: "beatles and cd". If you combine search terms for artist and CD title, you must include the word "and" between the artist and the CD title, and select words and phrases from the drop-down menu - for example: "beatles and yellow submarine and cd".
Type the DVD title in the search box and dvd and select words or phrases from the drop down menu. Make sure you include "and" between the two - for example, "star wars and dvd".
To search for music scores, type "music scores" in the search box and select words and phrases from the drop-down menu. Your results will be sorted in order of publishing year, with the most recent scores
at the top.
From the Item Details screen, click on the blue "Place Hold" link either in the left margin or by the Item Info: line in the catalogue record. Enter your library card number (the numbers under the barcode, without spaces or dashes), your PIN (usually the last 4 digits of your telephone number), and select the library where you would like to pick up the item. Click on the blue Place Hold button.
